I learn something new everyday!

Did you know?

Seals are different from sea lions!
- they are of different Families (Phocidae vs. Otariidae)
- sea lions have external ear flaps and can rotate their hind flippers, while seals don't
- seals swim with their rear flippers while sea lions swim with their front flippers (:

When you want to call people thick-skinned, call them a walrus! I.e.: "Woah you're such a WALRUS!"
- walruses live in cold places (polar, sub-polar, temperate waters), so require lots of insulation
- instead of having blubber, they have very thick skin! :D

Baleen whales are also called Moustachioed Sea Monsters! >:{D
- they come from the Suborder Mysticeti
- from the Greek words 'Mystax' (moustache) and 'Ketos' (sea monster)
- my professor thinks that it's the most awesome name ever; me too ((:

So cool. Must be because they live in cold waters. Hahahaha (:
